Take a scenic bus ride around Drayton Harbor to Semiahmoo Spit, a 1.25 mile natural spit, rich in history, geology and opportunities to view wildlife. Guided by Jim Jorgensen who’s background as a geology and ornithology teacher will help you to discover what makes this such an intriguing area of the northwest and premiere birding location. There will also be an opportunity to visit the Drayton Harbor Maritime Museum.
Dress appropriately for inclement weather.

David Hancock is a biologist, film maker, writer and publisher as well as founder of the Hancock Wildlife Foundation whose mission is to promote the conservation of wildlife and its habitats through science, education and stewardship. In recent years though more has been learned about the in-nest activities of bald eagles through Internet web cams that David has placed in many eagle nests, most recently in White Rock. Valeri Wade began feeding birds at the age of eight. Inspired by a couple in their 80's, who had hummingbirds perch on their fingers, she has been bitten by a Western Gray Squirrel, enjoys American Goldfinches visiting daily and has chickadees telling her when to fill her feeders. WOW Featured Presentation: “The Enchantment of Birds” by Dick Cannings
Where: Blaine School District Pacific Arts Center - 975 H Street, Blaine
5 PM - Cost: FREE Dick Cannings renowned author and biologist from British Columbia will make a presentation on The Enchantment of Birds, based on his book of the same name, he will WOW you about some of his favorite birds, why they are special and his personal connections with them. Dick was born and raised in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia where he had an early involvement in birds, bugs and plants that led him to a career as a naturalist and biologist. He currently works for Bird Studies Canada, coordinating Christmas Bird Counts, the eBird program and the British Columbia Owl Survey. He has written a number of books, among them The Birds of the Okanagan Valley, The BC Roadside Naturalist, The Rockies, a Natural History, as well as Birds of Southwestern British Columbia. He has produced regular radio programs on natural history themes for CBC and teaches courses on birding and nature. He has led over 50 natural history tours to destinations around the world. When he isn’t birding he plays a fiddle in a local Scottish country dance band.
